Martha’s Leelanau Table Restaurant |

In the basement of this house on the main street of Suttons Bay, Paul’s workers found a 1913 enameled steel truck license plate, and a 1916 Detroit Journal newspaper featuring a divorce trial where the wife went on a cooking strike and her husband testified he was forced to cook his own meals. Home lots were for sale on North Woodward Avenue (just minutes from the Ford Plant), for $210 dollars with terms– 10% down and payments of $5 dollars a month. Until last winter it was a private home. Today, with the help of the vision of architect Judy Balas, it’s a cozy European-style restaurant that in one year has become one of the most popular destinations for both local foodies and vacationers alike. The old house was gutted back to the studs and the floor plan and interior space redesigned to comfortably accommodate diners, and function efficiently as a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen.
Be sure to stop at Martha’s for European-style farm fresh cuisine and the finest pastries in the entire region. Everything is made from scratch, using only fresh local ingredients.
