West Bay Home
This stunningly beautiful ultra-contemporary home sits perched high above West Grand Traverse Bay with commanding views to the North, East, and South. The house is an excellent example of current American contemporary design and would fit very nicely on the pages of Dwell Magazine. The owners approached architect Michael Fitzhugh of Traverse City with their concept, desires, (and design accoutrements) and gave him the freedom to create a masterpiece. We think he did just that.
Photography can’t do justice to the unique spaces created from raw concrete, polished steel, and beautiful wood species. Walking through this home is a symphony of visual music– a melodious harmony of overwhelming spaciousness complete with subtleties like intimate contemplative spaces and long naturally lit hallways for enjoying the owner’s art collection. To extend the experience, glass walls open up to treetop level decks with incredible views of the water, adding yet another level of delight to the senses. The symphonic crescendo occurs when you enter the living room with its sunken conversation area and skyscraper size windows from floor to ceiling. It is a fitting finale for this architectural design triumph.
